The Latest
Hello All!
Thanks for hanging in there the last couple of days whilst I've been beavering away in the background
As you may have seen, there has been a slight re-brand - going forward the editor is known as World Architect. I wanted to shift the name away from anything that is currently in the works or editors for past games and carve my own place in the community.
What has changed inside the editor?
- Water refinements - You can now move water planes on the Y axis using a gizmo rather than number spinners, you can also set more..... settings - Waves, Flow, Reflection and Shine
- Terrain paint layers - you can set the sound that footprints cause (Grass, Dirt, Sand, Gravel, Stone, Leaves, Deep Snow, Brick, Snow, Pine Needles, Cement, Puddle)
- Lot Architecture investigations - Mainly apartments and beach lots
- Beach lots should be in the editor on release
- For the future: some way to define an apartment layout for City Living style apartments
- Height map imports
- Testing and Iterating - basically trying to break things in the editor
- Colour scheme has been updated to match the website
What has changed outside of the editor?
Website
New name, new domain, new website. I wanted something flexible that could incorporate other ideas I have for the future (more on that below)
World Installer
The game has a couple of resources that it keeps a single copy of that dictates what worlds are installed, including custom ones. To make the process seamless, an 'installer' is going to be needed to patch those individual resources for each custom world you choose to download. This is a small program that copies the world file & its companion package to the correct location in game, patches the required files and updates the manifest it keeps of what worlds you have installed. Its important to note that this installer program does not modify your game files in any way. It updates its own copies of the required game files and keeps this in a package in your mods folder.
There will be instructions on how to install a world file manually for those feeling brave enough or who would rather not use the automated installer.
World Exchange
I've also been working on a location for you to upload your completed worlds for other people to download (and use the installer to install, if they so wish).
The exchange is not mandatory and worlds can be shared outside of this system. The idea is to make peoples lives easier when it comes to finding and installing worlds.
All worlds uploaded are scanned to check they only contain world related information.
More on that in the future!
I'm hoping that the editor can go out to closed testing in the next couple of weeks before being opened up to wider community testing - exciting! It will be in Beta during this time.
Any questions, feedback (good or otherwise), please drop me a message on X
