A world in World Architect

Hello All!

Its been a busy few days here but progress is marching on.

What have I been up to?

Terrain size investigations - The game usually has terrain/worlds that are 6 x 6 chunks. I am currently working on a world that has 8 x 8 chunks with no noticeable downgrade in performance.

Lot numbers - The world I am currently working in has 12 lots so far.... I'm still building though

Terrain Imports - You can import terrain from worlds from The Sims 2 (.sc4) and The Sims 3 (.world). You can also import a height map.

    • The Sims 3 and The Sims 4 worlds are scaled differently. A Sims 3 terrain chunk is 256 x 256 tiles. A Sims 4 terrain chunk is 128 x 128 tiles. A large sims 3 world is 8 x 8 chunks (4,194,304 tiles!), a large sims 4 world is 6 x 6 chunks (589,824 tiles). If you import a Sims 3 world terrain into the editor, it will be clipped around the edges to fit the sims 4 world size.

I've been dabbling in the process of creating your own City Living style apartments, for the player that prefers the more rigid playstyle those apartments bring

Fixing bugs and user experience issues across the editor - I'm still not happy with a couple areas in the editor: Tuning editor, Conditional Layers, Objects. I will be taking a pass at these next

I've uploaded a longer 20 minute video to YouTube showing me editing my own world - Riverview from The Sims 3 (Ignore what the title bar in the editor says!). The image above is the current state of the world.

A second video showing the world working in game can be seen here

We're creeping closer to private testing before a beta release!

As usual, any questions or comments, good or bad, let me know on X
